Kalamazoo heads South

MMPA NAMM

I was fortunate enough to complete my residency in Orthopaedic Surgery in Kalamazoo, MI, the birthplace of the one and only Gibson SG. I’ve manage to keep a few pieces of Kzoo history with me although I now reside with my family in Charleston, South Carolina. During the past few years, I’ve amassed a formative collection of SG’s. To me it’s the ultimate electric guitar, lightweight, sharp on appearance, and timeless with age. It’s been one of the staples of my band Steel Petals. We are a blues rock trio that’s completed two records since our inception in 2009. Interestingly, Two of our songs were recently featured in the MTV reality series, Buckwild. While many of the vintage pieces don’t make it to gigs often, you won’t ever see them hanging on walls or lying in cases. They’re all played regularly in the studio and help form the backbone of our sound and experience when jamming or recording. Although not pictured, the bass player also plays a SG standard bass. From left to right: 2007 Gibson SG standard robot, 2009 SG zoot suit with Tom Holmes pickups, 1970 SG Standard (my number 1), 1962 les paul/SG with ebony block, 1962 les paul/SG with ebony block, 1963 SG special, 1970 Sg Special, 1968 SG Junior
