Veteran guitarist Larry “Rhino” Reinhardt, 63, died in Florida on Monday, Jan. 2, reportedly due to a liver ailment. Reinhardt had played with Dickey Betts and Berry Oakley in the Second Coming in the late ’60s, prior to the other two musicians’ association with the Allman Brothers Band, but Reinhardt himself first came to notice when he played in Iron Butterfly on that band’s Metamorphosis album. He later formed Captain Beyond, an early supergroup that also members from Deep Purple and Johnny Winter’s band. He remained active, and his last album was Back in the Day, released in late 2010.
