Breedlove Stringed Instruments has announced it will suspend production of its U.S.-made mandolins in 2016. Saying it is restructuring its manufacturing layout “…to improve efficiencies and keep cost down,” Miles Benefield, Production Manager, added, “The most important thing is that we are handcrafting high-quality instruments. To continue to do that the decision was made to suspend mandolin production.” The company will expand its Crossover series of mandolins, which are manufactured overseas.
Breedlove began offering mandolins in 1997, building them in their Oregon workshop. The Crossovers were introduced in 2014.
