This album was released last year, but I like it a lot and haven’t seen much written about it, so we’ll tell you a bit about it.
It’s a pretty much what you’d expect from Reed. Some songs with funny lyrics and funky beats and guitars, and some instrumentals with gorgeous melodies and monster pickin’. He plays mostly electric gut-string guitar on the instrumentals, and keeps his electric stuff mostly confined to harmonized solos on the songs with lyrics. All the songs, as you might expect on a Jerry Reed album, have very cool and interesting changes. I’d be very surprised if you’d hear a couple of the instrumental tunes and not think of a certain guy Jerry’s played with – Chet Atkins.
This isn’t a great album. But it’s a very good one, and I was happy to run across a new Jerry Reed record. If you’re a fan, check it out.
