The Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout (SUAS) Cancer Fund participated in a Monsters of Rock Caribbean Cruise in April. SUAS president Wendy Dio, as well as several members of the organization’s board of directors, joined 3,500 passengers and 40 artists including Lita Ford, Billy Sheehan, Tom Kiefer, Rowan Robertson (Dio), and members of Night Ranger and Black & Blue. The event raised $48,000 by auctioning guitars signed by several acts, as well as signed Ronnie James Dio photos and memorabilia.
The SUAS Cancer Fund is a 501(c)(3) charity dedicated to cancer prevention, research, and education. It is committed to raising money and awareness in hope of one day finding a cure. Dio fronted Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Heaven & Hell, and his own band. He died of gastric cancer on May 16, 2010. The organization will commemorate the fifth anniversary of his passing, May 15-17, by hosting the Bowl For Ronnie celebrity bowling event at in Studio City, and a Ride For Ronnie commemorative motorcycle run.
